What are Skin Tags?

Skin tags are those small, soft, and harmless growths that can appear on various parts of our body. They often hang off the skin and can be slightly raised or flat. Think of them as tiny flaps of skin that are usually flesh-coloured or slightly darker. Rest assured, they are completely harmless, are quite common, and can occur in anyone, regardless of age or gender. They typically develop in areas where skin rubs against skin or clothing, like the neck, underarms, or groin.

Skin Tag Removal Treatment in Wolverhampton

Before the Skin Tag Removal Treatment

We always advise our client to visit their GP first to check out the lesion before skin tag removal is considered. Once you have booked an appointment with us, we will go through the procedure in detail with you and will discuss with you how your skin tag will be removed. We will answer any questions you may have – we’ll put you at ease.

Skin Tag Removal Treatment

We use the ACCOR Plasma Pen to perform the procedure, which works by cauterising the skin tag, flattening and shrinking it, leaving a small carbon crust behind which then falls away very quickly post treatment. It is safe and non-surgical, as well as very quick and convenient.

The whole procedure takes approximately 30 minutes depending on the number of skin tags. It doesn’t hurt at all but you may experience a slight stinging sensation. You can resume normal activities, including work, within 24 hours. Most cases show a high success rate after just one treatment, though larger lesions may require additional sessions for best results.

After the Treatment

After your skin tag removal treatment, it is important to take proper care of the affected area. This includes keeping the treated skin clean and dry, and applying an antiseptic cream or ointment to help prevent infection. It is also important to wear loose-fitting clothes and avoid picking or scratching at the area. Typically the carbon crust falls away within 7-14 days post treatment.

Generally, cryotherapy and laser treatments take between 7-14 days to heal, while cutting or burning off a tag may take slightly longer. In some cases, it may be necessary to use an antiseptic cream or antibiotic ointment at the treatment site to help protect against infection.

When Should I Consider Having It Removed?

It is important to remember that skin tags are not harmful and do not need to be removed. That being said, if you feel they are affecting your confidence or causing you discomfort, then you may want to consider removing them. It is also recommended that you remove any skin tags that become irritated or painful.

  • Does Skin Tag Removal Leave a Scar?
  • The removal of skin tags is usually a simple procedure and does not usually leave scars. If any scarring is visible it is generally very minimal, and barely visible.

  • Is Skin Tag Removal Painful?
  • Our procedure is generally painless. You will feel a slight stinging sensation.

  • Will the Skin Tag Grow Back?
  • In most cases, skin tags are permanently removed after one treatment. However, it is possible for them to reappear if the underlying causes are not addressed. People with certain medical conditions or who are overweight may be more prone to developing skin tags again in the future. It is also important to note that the removal of a skin tag does not prevent new ones from forming in other areas of the body.

  • Can I Have My Skin Tag Removed for Cosmetic Reasons?
  • Having skin tags removed for cosmetic reasons is a personal decision and should be discussed with your doctor. In some cases, it may be necessary to have them removed if they are causing discomfort or embarrassment. Skin tags can also become irritated if they are rubbed too often by clothing or jewelry, making them painful or uncomfortable.
