Blackheads Removal Treatment Wolverhampton
What are Blackheads?
Blackheads, also known as open comedones, are a type of acne lesion that appear on the skin as small, dark or black bumps. They are a form of non-inflammatory acne and are caused by the accumulation of excess oil (sebum), dead skin cells, and other debris within hair follicles.
How Do You Get Blackheads?
Excess Oil Production: The sebaceous glands in the skin produce an oily substance called sebum. When these glands produce too much sebum, it can mix with dead skin cells and become trapped in hair follicles.
Clogged Pores: The combination of excess oil and dead skin cells can clog the opening of the hair follicle, forming a plug.
Oxidation: When this plug is exposed to air, it oxidises and turns dark in colour, giving the characteristic black appearance.
Unlike whiteheads, which are closed comedones with a white or flesh-coloured bump, blackheads have an open pore, allowing the trapped material to be exposed to the air. Despite their dark appearance, the colour is not due to dirt but rather the result of oxidation.
Where Do Blackheads Occur?
Blackheads commonly occur on the face, particularly in the T-zone (forehead, nose, and chin), but they can also be found on the chest, back, neck, and shoulders. Proper skincare, including regular cleansing and exfoliation, can help prevent and manage blackheads. If you have persistent or severe acne concerns, it’s advisable to consult with a dermatologist for personalised advice and treatment options.
